Guide

What is park-and-ride?

Park-and-ride (P&R) lots are free or low-cost parking facilities located at or near transit stops so commuters can drive part of the way and then continue by bus, TRAX, or FrontRunner. UTA operates dozens of P&R lots across the Wasatch Front, concentrated at TRAX and FrontRunner stations where parking availability and transit frequency make the switch worthwhile.

Finding a P&R stop

The best way to find a park-and-ride near you is to browse the UTA Tracker route map and look for stations labeled with a parking symbol in the TRAX or FrontRunner corridors. Major P&R hubs include:

  • Sandy Expo / Sandy Civic Center — large TRAX Blue Line lots
  • Draper Town Center — southern TRAX terminus with parking
  • South Jordan — Blue Line terminus with extensive park-and-ride
  • Daybreak Parkway — Red Line terminus parking
  • Murray Central — mid-line TRAX parking and bus connections
  • FrontRunner stations (Ogden to Provo) — dedicated station parking at most stops

Connecting to your route

Most P&R lots are designed for straightforward platform-level boarding. At TRAX stations, the platform is adjacent to the lot. At FrontRunner stations, follow signs to the correct platform (northbound vs. southbound). Many P&R stations also have bus bays where local routes begin or terminate, giving you additional transfer options if TRAX or FrontRunner doesn't serve your final destination directly.

Use the TRAX or FrontRunner live tracker to check departure times from your chosen station before you leave home, so you can time your arrival at the lot.

Costs and permits

Most UTA park-and-ride lots are free to UTA riders — there is no daily parking fee at the majority of TRAX and FrontRunner station lots. Some high-demand lots or shared municipal lots adjacent to stations may charge for parking. A small number of reserved spaces at certain stations require a monthly permit purchased through UTA. Check the official UTA website (rideuta.com) for current permit availability and pricing at specific stations.
